Sponsor a Compass
Help us reach our goal to send 535 moral 'compasses' to Congress! As of February 6, the first full day of our campaign, we've already raised enough to send 50 compasses and we are counting on you to spread the word about this project.
We will be sending a symbolic token compass through the mail to all congressional representatives.*
If we exceed our target to cover our costs, we'll donate additional funds to good causes that uphold our democratic values like Freedom House in Detroit, who just had all of their funding pulled by HUD, or Amnesty International who are supporting refugees worldwide or the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), who are working hard to protect our environment through legal action.
There's no tax-deduction because right now we're just citizens making things happen.
Still asking why you should participate? Let's discuss.
Aren't you a little fed up with Congress?
Yes...Congress. Why them and not the President? Because they are responsible for legislating and they have the power to prevent the President from enacting his anti-American agenda or to be compliant as he buries us deep in it.
Though the responsibilities of the President are vast, the authority to make laws rests with Congress, not the executive branch. The majority party has control, so although the minority can slow things down, they aren't able to stop most of the agenda items of this far-right Republican administration on their own.** They need to work together. Governing is about compromise. Truly patriotic Republicans (and Democrats) will have to do most of the work. We know the most patriotic of Republicans (and Democrats) will stand up for our liberties, purely demonstrating their commitment to our country. We hope that they will do so frequently and with vigor. It will come down to determining if they will uphold our most basic, pure and fundamental rights, while not advancing discriminatory policies. The courts are also currently standing up for justice and prosperity while the administration tries to undermine their authority to do their duty.
It comes down to this: whether or you voted for a Democrat or a Republican or didn't vote at all, we are all citizens, and we all deserve to have the rights in our Constitution protected and defended from enemies foreign and domestic. And, we don't want to be responsible for ruining the American experiment. Do you? So, we really need our elected officials to get it together and do their jobs providing checks and balances.
To those who are doing a great job fighting for our rights, we'll send a note of thanks!***
Americans of all backgrounds want safe, healthy communities where they can pursue their dreams. So, let's do something clever.
